When Mr. Brown gets a job as an optician in the picturesque town of Perfect the Browns decide it’s too great an opportunity to miss out on and so they move their entire family to the little town.
Their ten year old daughter Violet isn’t happy with the move. She never wanted to leave her old life behind and doesn’t like the way everyone and everything in Perfect is … umm….well….perfect.
Soon her suspicions about the seedy town are confirmed when her family’s eyesight begins to weaken and soon they go blind. Luckily the Mr. Archers come to their rescue and give them all a pair of rose-tinted glasses.
With their eyesight restored everything is back to normal.
Or is it?
Soon Violet realizes everything is not as it seems.
She hears voices at night. Her mother is acting weird and she hasn’t seen her father in ages.
Then she meets Boy.
With her entire reality turned upside down Violet decides she’s going to get to the bottom of the mystery that surrounds Perfect and get her family back to normal.
Little does she know that she’s about to uncover the most well kept secret that Perfect has to offer……
While this book is aimed at a younger audience I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. Helena Duggan has masterfully created alternate realities in a children’s’ book. I loved the creepy elements peppered throughout the book but my absolute favorite part was the tea! Imagine, a tea that can taste like anything you imagine it to be! I loved reading about the Ghost Estate and the dwellers of No Mans Land. I was completely fascinated by the idea of a pair of bifocal glasses stealing a persons’ imagination away *so creepy!
This book encourages readers to be unique and shows them how sometimes not conforming to a societies’ standard can be beneficial and it’s alright to be the way you are.*every single one of us is a special snowflake ❄️❤️
This book is fairly fast-paced and definitely needs to be a part of everyones’ bookshelf. *There’s also going to be a second part that’ll be released sometime in 2018 that I’m super excited about!!!
*I was sent this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This sounds very interesting. I am looking for YA books for my twins, who are turning ten in two days (and read both MG and YA). You mention that this book is aimed for a younger audience, so I’m hoping it will work for them. Thanks!
