Her face was twisted, the hurt spreading like a rash, red and raging. Woman in flames. Burn, I thought, burn.

Told in multiple POVs, “You Were Made for This” tells the story of Sam, Merry and their infant son Connor who move from their hectic lives in New York to the picturesque Swedish countryside where they intend to lead a comfortable,family-centered lifestyle.

Little do they know that their entire world is about to tip off of its axis…

Sam a film documentarian dotes on his son and is proud of his wife,Merry – the perfect image of domestic bliss.
However, little does he know what goes on at home when he’s not around…

Meanwhile, Merry tackles playing the role of the model housewife and affectionate mother like a pro, while also trying to keep her frustrations at bay.
So immersed is she in her facade that when her childhood friend, Frank decides to visit, it threatens her peaceful existence.

Frank, who over the years has hijacked her life and is best friends with her mother.
Frank who is ambitious and successful.
Frank who captivates men when she enters a room.
Frank who longs to become better than Merry can ever be.
Frank who has her eyes set on her family…

As secrets about Sam’s notorious past threaten to emerge and as Frank does her best to take over Merry’s life, something happens…
and Merry is to be blamed.

Or is she?

Two lives and two people, knotted together in a tight fist like gnarled roots of ancient trees, so deep and twisted you cannot distinguish one from the other, that you cannot uproot the one without killing both. Part you, part me.

This was such a deliciously dark book, with a cast of highly unlikable characters, each with their own casket of secrets. Definitely the quintessential thriller of 2018 in my opinion.

Even though I could tell what was about to happen, I was transfixed by the *ucked up *hit (excuse my French) that kept on happening chapter after chapter.

Now you may be wondering if I liked this book so much why isn’t it rated a 5/5 ? Well the answer is fairly simple.
There were times while reading that the format became slightly tedious. Frankly speaking, I strongly believe that this could’ve been a much better book if they’d cut out at least a hundred pages from it. I honestly prefer an adrenaline rush when I read thrillers/mysteries and this book made me feel languorous all the while I read it; which not necessarily an unwelcome feeling, did rather hinder the progress I was making.

“You Were Made For This” is Sack’s first novel and is such a psychotic amalgamation of the worst characters EVER, that I can’t wait to read the next book she writes!

*I was sent this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review
